A 45-year-old Satsuma man is behind bars after being sentenced to 21 months imprisonment for a federal firearms charge.
George Ralph Leverette, Jr. was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge he pleaded to in December 2016.
According to court documents, Leverette was investigated by the Saraland Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office by Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell.
Leverette was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Callie V. S. Granade, who also ordered him to pay a special mandatory assessment of $100 and imposed a three-year term of supervised release.
No fine was levied against Leverette as part of his sentencing.
The sentencing of Leverette serves as a reminder of the federal government’s commitment to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who are not entitled to possess them.
The case is a testament to the important work being done by law enforcement agencies in the Southern District of Alabama to keep our communities safe.
As a result of this case, Leverette will spend the next 21 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release.
