Turtle Creek Man Iklas Richard Davis Indicted for Gun Possession

Iklas Richard Davis, 36, of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, is staring down a federal prison sentence after being indicted on charges of illegally possessing a loaded Ruger .45 caliber American Pistol and ammunition—despite being barred from owning guns due to a prior felony conviction.

The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on February 20, accuses Davis of knowingly and unlawfully possessing the firearm on or about October 13, 2017. At the time, Davis had already been convicted of theft by unlawful taking or disposition—a felony under federal law that strips an individual of their right to possess firearms or ammo.

Federal law is unyielding on this front: anyone convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison cannot legally possess a gun or ammunition. Davis allegedly violated that law cold. Now, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years behind bars, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is leading the prosecution, building a case rooted in the strict enforcement of federal firearms statutes. The stakes are high, and the sentencing, if convicted, will weigh heavily on Davis’s criminal history and the seriousness of the offense under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The takedown was the result of a coordinated investigation by the United States Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Justice Department’s hardline initiative aimed at slashing violent crime through aggressive federal prosecution and interagency cooperation.

This case reflects a broader crackdown under former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who in October 2017 reinvigorated PSN as part of a nationwide push to reverse rising violent crime trends. As for Davis, the indictment is not a conviction—but in federal court, the odds stack fast against defendants with a record. He’s presumed innocent until proven guilty, but the government is coming hard.
