Sacramento, CA — William Lamar Blessett, 38, is staring down a federal prison sentence after a six-count indictment charged him with receipt and possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today. A federal grand jury handed down the charges following a forensic sweep of Blessett’s home that uncovered disturbing evidence across multiple devices.
Investigators found child pornography on at least six electronic devices during the search, including a laptop, three smartphones, and two tablets. The digital trove paints a grim picture of systematic exploitation, with files reportedly stored across personal gadgets used daily. Authorities have not released details on the content’s nature or origin, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing case.
The arrest is the latest blow in a broader crackdown by the Sacramento Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, a joint operation backed by federal and state funding and managed by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department. Featuring agents from multiple law enforcement tiers, the task force specializes in hunting down predators who exploit minors online—whether through pornography, enticement, or trafficking.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Schuller Hitchcock is leading the prosecution. Each count carries a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison, along with a $250,000 fine. If convicted on all counts, Blessett could face multiple consecutive life sentences, though actual time served will depend on judicial discretion, statutory factors, and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. Spearheaded by U.S. Attorneys and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the project unites federal, state, and local forces to dismantle networks of abuse, apprehend offenders, and rescue victims. Since its inception, it has led to thousands of arrests and hundreds of convictions.
The charges against William Lamar Blessett remain allegations. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Federal authorities urge anyone with information about child exploitation to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST or visit www.usdoj.gov/psc for resources on internet safety and reporting abuse.
