A Torrance man has been slammed with an 87-month federal prison sentence after amassing and distributing more than 20,000 images and videos of child pornography through the BitTorrent peer-to-peer network. Jace Jeanes, 39, admitted to hoarding the illicit material and making it accessible to predators across the digital underground.
Jeanes was sentenced Monday by United States District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald in Los Angeles. Following his release, he will face lifetime supervised release and must register as a sex offender. He will also be barred from any location where children are present—a permanent scarlet letter for a crime that leaves lasting trauma on its youngest victims.
In July, Jeanes pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography. As part of a court-filed plea agreement, he admitted to possessing approximately 19,885 images and 243 videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. The material was stored on his laptop and two external hard drives, all configured to broadcast across BitTorrent—an open highway for criminal distribution.
The case began when Jeanes received two graphic videos of child molestation in March 2014. Days later, an undercover federal agent downloaded over 2,800 illegal images and videos directly from his devices. The digital trail was undeniable. His system wasn’t just receiving— it was actively sharing, feeding an insidious cycle of exploitation.
“Every act of child molestation is a heinous offense, and the victimization of the child continues when the act is recorded and the recording is shared or possessed,” said United States Attorney Eileen M. Decker. “These images and videos are a permanent record of the initial crime, and my office is committed to prosecuting participants of the underground market of visual depictions of that crime.”
The FBI led the investigation into Jeanes’ activities, dismantling a node in the global web of child exploitation. Assistant United States Attorney Christina T. Shay, of the Violent and Organized Crime Section, prosecuted the case. For Jace Jeanes, the sentence marks the end of legal proceedings—but for the children in those images, the nightmare never stops.
