MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA — Two Oklahoma women have pleaded guilty to federal charges tied to the possession and intended distribution of half a kilo or more of methamphetamine. Christina Crystal Hernandez, 37, of Poteau, Oklahoma, and Deana Marie Oakes, 35, of Panama, Oklahoma, admitted to the crime in U.S. District Court, facing potential life behind bars.
The charges stem from an incident on or about August 8, 2017, when both defendants allegedly possessed with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine — a Schedule II controlled substance — within the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The offense violates Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A), and Title 18, United States Code, Section 2.
Each faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, along with a fine of up to $10,000,000.00, or both. No plea agreement details have been released, and sentencing will be determined following a presentence investigation report ordered by U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly E. West.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Panama City Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, highlighting the ongoing federal-state collaboration targeting high-level drug operations in eastern Oklahoma. Authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges or co-conspirators are expected.
Hernandez and Oakes appeared before the court in Muskogee, where Judge West accepted their guilty pleas. The courtroom was quiet as both women answered in the affirmative, their fates now in the hands of a federal sentencing judge.
Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States. With methamphetamine fueling addiction and violence across rural Oklahoma, this conviction marks another front in the DOJ’s crackdown on large-scale drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
