Quinton Williams, Convenience Store Armed Robbery, GA 2024

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A brazen robbery at a Garden City convenience store has landed a repeat offender behind bars for the next 15 years. Quinton Williams, 30, of Savannah, received the sentence from U.S. District Court Judge R. Stan Baker, a penalty handed down by U.S. Attorney Bobby L. Christine for the Southern District of Georgia.

On September 16, 2018, Williams stormed into the Garden City Convenience store at 4801 Augusta Road, fueled by cocaine. Witnesses say he immediately brandished a firearm, leveling it at the store manager’s face. With customers present, Williams forced the manager to the floor before snatching cash from the register. Garden City Police Department officers apprehended Williams just two days later, but not before he put innocent lives in danger.

The federal charge, Interference with Commerce by Robbery, carried a significant penalty, and prosecutors successfully argued that Williams qualified as a “career offender.” His extensive criminal history – riddled with violent felony convictions and prior firearms offenses – sealed his fate. He will serve 180 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Crucially, there is no parole in the federal system, meaning Williams will serve the entirety of his sentence.

“As we’ve seen too often, violent, career criminals like Quinton Williams are among the relative handful of people who cause much of the crime in our communities,” stated U.S. Attorney Christine. “Thanks to our diligent law enforcement agencies, this is now one fewer violent criminal for our citizens to fear.” The $2,000 in restitution ordered by the judge offers a small measure of relief to the victims of Williams’ reckless act.

Chris Hacker, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, emphasized the importance of federal prosecution in cases involving repeat offenders. “Williams, with multiple prior felony convictions, once again put innocent civilians at risk during the commission of this robbery. He clearly has no regard for the law,” Hacker said. “The FBI is proud to work with our local law enforcement partners in helping to convict these repeat offenders at the federal level, where they face stiffer penalties and no opportunity for parole.”

The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI’s Southeast Georgia Violent Crimes Task Force and the Garden City Police Department. This case serves as a stark reminder that those who prey on our communities will be held accountable, especially when federal and local agencies collaborate to bring them to justice. The Grimy Times will continue to follow federal crime trends in the Southern District of Georgia and beyond.
