Lobelville Meth & Fentanyl Kingpin Gets 20 Years
LOBELVILLE, TN – Daniel Ranger, 33, is facing two decades behind bars after being sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine and fentanyl distribution operation. U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant announced the sentence today, marking a significant victory in a case that involved multiple defendants and a flood of dangerous narcotics into Tennessee communities.
The sentencing stems from a series of incidents beginning February 28, 2017, when Lawrenceburg Police pulled over a vehicle operated by Ranger. A search revealed a Taurus 9mm handgun, a ballistics vest, three cell phones, 5.5 grams of methamphetamine/ice, and a staggering $10,241 in cash. This wasn’t an isolated incident. Subsequent traffic stops and searches unearthed further evidence of Ranger’s criminal enterprise. On October 7, 2017, a Perry County Sheriff’s Office search turned up $98,360 in cash, numerous pharmaceutical tablets, and a detailed drug ledger.
The real scope of Ranger’s operation became clear on October 24, 2017, following an automobile wreck. Officers responding to the scene discovered a blue cooler containing 222 grams of 95% pure methamphetamine, 20.15 grams of fentanyl/heroin, cocaine, and a mountain of pills. Nearby, they found $20,000 in cash and 195 grams of marijuana. Another drug ledger documented prices and debts. Later that day, a raid on Ranger’s residence at 3439 Red Bank Creek Road in Lobelville, yielded 1.51 kilograms of marijuana stashed in a trash bag and another 780 grams of methamphetamine/ice and 260 grams of heroin hidden *inside the dishwasher*.
Investigators weren’t finished. A second search warrant executed on October 28, 2017, revealed additional digital scales and sample packs of pills. In a trailer behind the house, officers discovered a Glock pistol case containing magazines and ammunition – a 9mm magazine, a Remington five-round magazine, fourteen .223 rounds, and ten 12-gauge shotgun shells. The evidence painted a clear picture: Daniel Ranger was a heavily armed drug trafficker operating a sophisticated and dangerous operation. Rolando Lopez, Saul Vega Flores, Virginia Torres, Kenneth Edward Garrett, Ronald Lynn Parham, Tammy Ranger, Marcus Jones, and Xavier Demetrius James were also implicated in the conspiracy.
“Fentanyl and Methamphetamine are deadly drugs that destroy lives,” stated U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant. “The substantial quantity of illegal narcotics possessed by the defendant for resale could have caused countless injuries and deaths. This armed recidivist drug dealer will now have to pay for his crimes with a 20 year federal prison sentence.” Ranger was held accountable for a total of 963.9 grams of methamphetamine, 228.15 grams of heroin/fentanyl, and 1,480 grams of marijuana.
U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Anderson delivered the 240-month sentence on May 31, 2019, followed by five years of supervised release. The case was a collaborative effort involving the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) – Nashville, Jackson, Knoxville, Atlanta; Tennessee Bureau of Investigation; 23rd Judicial Drug Task Force; Metro Nashville Police Department; Jackson Police Department; and Carroll County authorities. The investigation serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Tennessee and the lengths to which law enforcement will go to bring perpetrators to justice.
