KC Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Illegal Firearm Possession

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A grim chapter in the city’s criminal narrative has concluded with Christopher R. Williams, a repeat offender from Kansas City, receiving a 15-year sentence for illegal firearm possession.

Williams, aged 45, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to serve 15 years and 10 months without parole. The sentence came as no surprise given his status as an armed career criminal, a label bestowed upon him due to four prior felony convictions for drug trafficking and four more for possessing controlled substances.

The crime took place on July 13, 2017, when Williams was arrested at a residence under a warrant for substance possession. Police discovered the Taurus .357-caliber revolver hidden under his bed, fully loaded with ammunition. The search turned up a trove of illegal drugs, including 2.7 grams of cocaine, 11 ecstasy pills, and 2.5 grams of marijuana.

Williams’ illegal cache extended beyond drugs; a glass pipe with marijuana residue was also found in his bedroom. The federal law that Williams violated is clear: individuals with felony convictions are barred from possessing firearms or ammunition, yet he continued down this dangerous path while on probation.

This case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Raskin and investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department. It underscores the ongoing commitment of Project Safe Neighborhoods to combat violent crime in Missouri’s Western District. The program identifies and targets the most violent offenders, aiming to create safer neighborhoods for all.

Williams’ sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severe penalties for those who continue to break the law despite multiple convictions and the dangers associated with illegal firearms.
