Georgia Sex Offender Sentenced for Child Porn Possession

MACON, Ga. – David Franklin Browder, III, a registered child sex offender from Perry, Georgia, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell, also includes 25 years of supervised release and $3,000 in restitution to each identifiable victim.

Browder, 31, pleaded guilty to the charges against him after an international investigation revealed his activities on the Kik instant messaging app. Using the alias “yappydappy,” he uploaded images of minors being sexually abused. Canadian authorities first took notice of the account in 2019 and alerted Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta for further investigation.

HSI agents, with assistance from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, executed a federal search warrant at Browder’s residence on January 8, 2020. A forensic analysis of seized devices uncovered approximately 213 image files containing child sexual exploitation material. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s (NCMEC) Child Recognition and Identification System (CRIS) identified 49 images from nine known series within the defendant’s files.

Browder has a history of sex offenses, having been convicted in 2008 for criminal attempt to commit child molestation and sexual battery of a minor. U.S. Attorney Charles “Charlie” Peeler emphasized the severity of Browder’s crimes and praised the collaborative efforts between HSI Ottawa, HSI Atlanta, and local law enforcement.

Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer of HSI operations in Georgia and Alabama expressed relief that a child predator has been removed from the streets for the next decade. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shanelle Booker prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with questions regarding the investigation to be directed to Pamela Lightsey at (478) 621-2603 or Melissa Hodges at (478) 765-2362.
