ST. LOUIS, MO – The gritty city of St. Louis has witnessed another hard-hitting sentence for a ruthless crime: Daquan Sanders, 20, was sentenced to 104 months in prison for his involvement in a brazen armed carjacking.
Sanders, a resident of St. Louis, pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence in June 2020. The court heard the details today before U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry.
The incident occurred on April 1, 2019, when Sanders and his co-defendant Terrance Brew approached two individuals at a park in St. Louis County. Armed with firearms, they demanded their belongings from the victims, who were playing basketball at the time. One victim handed over his cell phone, while the other claimed to have nothing but car keys.
Sanders held the victims at gunpoint as Brew stole the keys and made off with the vehicle. The pair then fled the scene, leading St. Louis County Police on a high-speed chase that spanned fifteen miles through St. Louis City. The chase ended when Brew crashed into concrete barriers, allowing police to apprehend both suspects.
Co-defendant Terrance Brew also pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in December. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the St. Louis County Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney Jason Dunkel handling it for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
