Burlington Meth Kingpin Davenport Gets 21+ Years

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Lloyd Davenport, 44, of Burlington, is facing a long stretch behind bars after receiving a 262-month federal prison sentence for trafficking methamphetamine and possessing a firearm during his criminal activities. Chief Judge John A. Jarvey delivered the sentence on September 10, 2020, effectively removing a significant player in the Burlington-area drug trade.

United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum announced the sentencing, detailing that Davenport operated as a “pound-level” dealer of ice methamphetamine. This wasn’t some small-time operation; Davenport was moving substantial quantities of the highly addictive drug throughout the region. The sentence includes a mandatory five-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment – a cold comfort considering the federal system offers no parole.

What makes this case particularly disturbing is Davenport’s history. This wasn’t his first brush with the law. Court records reveal a pattern of escalating violence and disregard for the law, including prior convictions for armed robbery and another drug trafficking offense. Adding to the depravity, Davenport also has a conviction for animal cruelty, painting a picture of a man with little regard for life – human or otherwise.

Investigators discovered that Davenport wasn’t just dealing drugs; he was armed while doing it. The presence of a firearm during his trafficking activities added significant weight to the charges and ultimately contributed to the lengthy sentence. Federal authorities take firearm offenses associated with drug trafficking extremely seriously, and Davenport paid the price.

The successful prosecution of Davenport was a collaborative effort. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Southeast Iowa Narcotics Taskforce, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol all contributed to the investigation. Their combined resources and dedication were crucial in bringing Davenport to justice.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa handled the prosecution, ensuring that Davenport faced the full force of the law. This case serves as a stark warning to those involved in the drug trade: federal authorities are actively targeting high-level traffickers, and those caught will face severe consequences, including decades behind bars. Davenport’s 262-month sentence is a testament to that commitment.
