Former Wisconsin and New York City Schools Official David A. Hay has pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography. The 40-year-old, who most recently resided in Brooklyn, New York, exchanged sexually explicit digital images with a 15-year-old in May 2010 while employed in the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Hay, once principal at Tomah High School and Kettle Moraine High School, resigned from his position following inquiries into his licensing and misuse of a district credit card. He has most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the New York City Chancellor of Schools.
The guilty plea by Hay comes with a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison. His sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2020, in Green Bay’s Federal District Court.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The investigation was conducted by the City of Neenah Police Department with assistance from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble is prosecuting the case.
The year 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the Department of Justice. For more information on this historic milestone, visit www.Justice.gov/Celebrating150Years.
