Fort Wayne Felon Gets 10-Year Gun Sentence

FORT WAYNE – In a decisive move against gun and drug crime, Troy Topp, 25, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was today sentenced to 120 months in federal prison by U.S. District Court Judge Holly A. Brady. The sentence also includes two years of supervised release, as announced by U.S. Attorney Kirsch.

Documents from the case revealed that in July 2019, Topp was caught on video stealing from a vehicle and fled, only to be apprehended. Narcotics and paraphernalia were recovered at the scene, along with a stolen firearm. Topp confessed to obtaining the firearm through drug and money deals.

Topp’s criminal history includes a 2015 state court felony conviction in Allen County for dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of two or more precursors with intent to manufacture controlled substances.

The investigation into this case was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with assistance from the Fort Wayne Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith.

“This sentence sends a clear message that illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking will not be tolerated in our community,” said U.S. Attorney Kirsch. “We thank our law enforcement partners for their dedication to keeping our streets safe.”

Topp now faces the harsh realities of his actions, serving time behind bars for his continued criminal behavior.
