CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A federal jury has convicted Ronald Flirt, 59, of Aransas, on charges of conspiracy to distribute more than five grams of meth and possession with intent to distribute 27 grams of meth. The guilty verdict was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery.
The jury reached its decision after a three-hour deliberation following a two-day trial. Authorities had been monitoring a drug stash house when they observed Flirt stopping at the location. A DEA agent testified that he saw someone exit Flirt’s vehicle, enter the stash house, and return to the truck.
Upon pulling Flirt over, law enforcement discovered 10 Ziplock bags of meth with a total street value exceeding $4,000. Bodycam video showed Flirt attempting to conceal a bag of meth while being asked to show his hands by law enforcement, revealing one finger missing as he attempted to hide the substance.
Despite defense claims that the drugs were for personal use and Flirt intended to smoke an entire ounce himself, the jury found him guilty. The case was investigated by the DEA along with police departments in Corpus Christi and Mathis. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Marin and John Marck handled the prosecution.
U.S. District Judge David Morales has scheduled sentencing for February 23, 2022, where Flirt could face up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine. He remains in custody until his hearing.
