CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a shocking turn of events, 22-year-old Zachary Burton Taylor of Stonewood, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his crime of unlawful possession of a firearm.
The convicted domestic offender had previously been found guilty of domestic battery in December 2012 in the Magistrate Court of Harrison County, West Virginia. As a direct result of this conviction, Taylor is explicitly prohibited from possessing a firearm.
However, during a subsequent arrest in May 2014, Taylor was found in possession of a stolen .22 caliber pistol. This blatant disregard for the law led to a thorough investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Taylor eventually pled guilty in November 2014 to one count of "Prohibited Person in Possession of Firearm – Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence." Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod Douglas prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case, handing down the 18-month prison sentence to Taylor. This sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of violating firearm laws and the consequences that come with such actions.
As the Grimy Times continues to shed light on crimes and their consequences, we urge our readers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
With this conviction, Taylor’s fate is sealed, and he will spend the next 18 months behind bars for his crime of unlawful possession of a firearm.
