Grimy News Alert: Akron’s Jurmaine A. Jeffries, 32, is locked up for two decades after selling deadly fentanyl that took a life.
In a chilling turn of events, U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan announced on November 30th that Jeffries was sentenced to 20 years in the clink by Judge Solomon Oliver, Jr. The judge’s gavel dropped on Jeffries for distributing fentanyl, a move that ultimately led to death, and possession with intent to distribute.
The trial, which wrapped up in April 2018 after two weeks of tense testimony, revealed that Jeffries sold the deadly drug to an Akron woman who overdosed on September 16, 2015. The victim called and texted Jeffries repeatedly the day she died, records show. Her desperate plea: ‘B right there.’
Jeffries’s cell phone tower records placed him near her residence on the fateful day. Akron police detectives went undercover, posing as the woman, to ensnare Jeffries. When he arrived at her place with 38 grams of fentanyl in his possession, it was game over.
This heart-wrenching case has been a collaborative effort between the DEA and Akron Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan R. Miller leading the prosecution.
Jeffries’s sentence sends a stark message: No more lives will be lost to drug dealers like him.
