CLARK, SD – Anthony Dialo Holmes, 37, of Clark, South Dakota, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced for a sickening crime. Holmes was sentenced to 120 months – a full decade – for knowingly receiving and distributing child pornography. The sentence, handed down November 29, 2021, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann, reflects the severity of his actions and the damage inflicted on the victims depicted.
Acting United States Attorney Dennis R. Holmes announced the sentencing, detailing how Holmes used the social media platform Kik Messenger between September 1, 2019, and May 22, 2020, to both send and receive files containing sexually explicit images of minors. The investigation revealed a deliberate pattern of depravity, with Holmes actively seeking out and sharing this horrific material.
Holmes was initially indicted by a federal grand jury on August 17, 2020. He eventually pled guilty on August 31, 2021, facing the full weight of the law for his crimes. Beyond the decade in prison, Holmes will also serve 10 years of supervised release following his incarceration. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
This wasn’t a solitary act. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations worked tirelessly to build the case against Holmes, meticulously tracking his online activity and gathering evidence of his involvement. The investigation underscores the importance of dedicated law enforcement efforts in combating the spread of child sexual abuse material.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper led the prosecution, successfully presenting the evidence and securing the conviction. In addition to the prison term and supervised release, Holmes was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund – a small measure of restitution for the unimaginable harm he caused.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on similar federal crimes. The exploitation of children is a heinous act, and those who engage in it will be held accountable. This sentence serves as a stark warning: the digital world is not a shield from justice. Anyone involved in the creation, distribution, or possession of child pornography will face severe consequences.
