NY Felon Kevon Belfon Gets Two-Year Prison Sentence for Gun Possession

TRENTON, N.J. – Kevon Belfon, a 35-year-old man from Jamaica, New York, was handed a two-year prison sentence today for his illegal possession of a firearm. This comes after Belfon pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig.

Belfon, who has already been convicted of two felonies, one involving firearms, was caught with a Taurus 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun containing 10 rounds of ammunition on July 24, 2020, in Stafford Township, New Jersey. As a previously convicted felon, Belfon is not allowed to possess firearms.

Judge Michael A. Shipp imposed the sentence during today’s hearing at Trenton federal court. In addition to his prison term, Belfon was also sentenced to three years of supervised release after he serves his time.

The investigation leading to Belfon’s conviction and sentencing was conducted by special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) Newark Field Division, Trenton Field Office, under Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey L. Matthews. The Stafford Township Police Department, led by Chief of Police Thomas Dellane, also played a crucial role.

Acting U.S. Attorney Honig gave credit to the ATF and the Stafford Township Police Department for their work. Belfon’s legal representation was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ian D. Brater from the Criminal Division in Trenton.
