Akale Jamel Green, 54, of Huntington, West Virginia, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to three years for distributing heroin laced with fentanyl in a series of clandestine drug deals in 2020. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers, includes an additional three years of supervised release, marking the end of a swift but damning federal prosecution.
Court records reveal Green sold approximately 1.42 grams of heroin to a confidential informant on June 15, 2020, in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in Hurricane, West Virginia. The substance, later confirmed by the DEA Mid-Atlantic Laboratory, tested positive for both heroin and fentanyl — a lethal combo fueling the region’s overdose crisis.
But that wasn’t the only transaction. Green admitted to aiding and abetting the sale of roughly 1 gram of a heroin-fentanyl mixture at a Hurricane residence just days earlier, on June 9, 2020. He then sold another 1.33 grams to the same informant in Huntington on June 23, weaving a tight trail of narcotics activity across the Tri-State area.
The final blow came on July 22, 2020, when law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence on Doulton Avenue in Huntington. Inside, they seized a quantity of the same heroin-fentanyl mixture and digital scales — tools of the trade Green later admitted were his. He confessed to possessing the drugs with intent to distribute, erasing any doubt about his role in the operation.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentence, praising the relentless work of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the West Virginia State Police Ona Violent Crime and Drug Task Force West. Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney L. Cremeans prosecuted the case, building airtight evidence from controlled buys, lab results, and Green’s own admissions.
The case, docketed as 3:22-cr-100 in the Southern District of West Virginia, remains publicly accessible through PACER. As fentanyl continues its deadly grip on Appalachia, Green’s conviction serves as a stark reminder: even small-scale dealers are in the federal crosshairs.
