United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell has dropped the hammer on Dorian Lester, a 26-year-old from Bismarck, North Dakota, for his audacious move of failing to register as a sex offender.
The sentencing came down heavy today in Rapid City, where U.S. District Judge Jonathan A. Kobes ordered Lester to serve two years and four months behind bars, followed by five years of supervised release. To add insult to injury, Lester was also required to pony up $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Lester’s legal troubles began in July 2022 when he was indicted by a federal grand jury. He pleaded guilty on October 7, 2022, for his failure to register as a sex offender between May 20 and July 6 of that year. His previous conviction in federal court for a sex offense demanded a lifetime registration.
Investigation into this case was spearheaded by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper leading the prosecution charge. The sentence handed down today is part of Project Safe Childhood, a relentless initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Lester, now behind bars, awaits his fate as he was immediately remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
