Washington – A Baltimore woman has been sentenced to 48 months in prison after a violent shooting incident at the Salamander hotel in Washington, D.C. Shanteari Weems, 50, pleaded guilty on November 28, 2022, to one count of aggravated assault and one count of carrying a pistol without a license.
According to government evidence, Weems traveled from Baltimore to confront her husband at the hotel regarding allegations that he had been molesting children. The confrontation escalated into violence when Weems shot her husband in the neck and left leg, fracturing his femur. After shooting the victim, Weems attempted to barricade the hotel room, but officers eventually forced entry after approximately 25 minutes.
A search warrant was obtained for the hotel room, where police found Weems’s firearm in her purse and a note indicating her intent to shoot the victim. Following the incident, Weems was placed on supervised probation upon her release from prison.
In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert J. Contee III commended the work of the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in investigating and prosecuting the case. They also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Assistant U.S. Attorney LaVater Massie-Banks, who handled the investigation, indictment, and prosecution.
Paralegal Specialists Garcia Clarke and Michelle Wicker, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Yasmin Emrani, Brian Yang, Shaniqua Butler, Julian Ginos, Molly Patrick, and Lexi Nitishin were also acknowledged for their contributions to the case.
