OWASSO, OK – Imari Jamil Hines, 36, will answer for a savage attack on his girlfriend after pleading guilty in federal court Monday, according to U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. The December assault left the victim with visible injuries consistent with a brutal struggle for her life.
Hines pleaded guilty to assault of an intimate/dating partner by strangling and suffocating in Indian Country. The charge stems from a violent confrontation that unfolded in the early morning hours of December 16, 2022, within the victim’s apartment. What began as an argument quickly devolved into a physical assault, leaving the victim fearing for her life.
Court documents detail a harrowing account of the attack. The victim recounted to police that Hines escalated the argument by pushing her before launching into a sustained attack, strangling her and then repeatedly slamming her head against the ground. The assault didn’t end there; Hines also punched the victim in the face, leaving her battered and bruised. She managed to escape the apartment, but not before Hines stole her vehicle.
Responding officers painted a grim picture of the victim’s condition. Investigators noted significant bruising and red marks around her neck, coupled with petechiae in her eyes – telltale signs of strangulation. A black eye and extensive facial bruising further confirmed the severity of the beating she endured. The evidence clearly pointed to a deliberate and vicious assault.
The investigation was a coordinated effort between the FBI, Tulsa Police Department, and Owasso Police Department. Their work pieced together the events of that night, building a case that led to Hines’ guilty plea. Assistant U.S. Attorney Niko A. Boulieris is now tasked with securing an appropriate sentence for the defendant.
Sentencing for Imari Jamil Hines has not yet been scheduled. However, with a guilty plea secured, Hines now faces the consequences for his actions. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the sentencing when it is announced. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help if you or someone you know is in danger.
