25 Years for Capitol Heights Killer Andre Hicks

A 25-year prison sentence has been handed down to Andre Hicks, 40, for the murder of Daniel Adams in a brazen shooting on November 25, 2023, in Northeast Washington, D.C.

Hicks, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was sentenced today by Superior Court Judge Marisa Demeo, who also ordered him to serve five years of supervised release after his prison term. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

According to the government’s evidence, Hicks approached the scene at 1705 Benning Road Northeast on foot, pulling a gun from his pants as he stood by the front door. After slowly descending the stairs, he drew his gun and fired repeatedly at Adams, who was standing outside. The victim managed to run away, but Hicks continued firing, striking Adams multiple times. Adams was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the next day.

U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Smith commended the work of the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alec Levy for their efforts in bringing Hicks to justice.

Law enforcement officials have praised the bravery of witnesses who came forward to provide crucial testimony in the case. Despite the challenges of investigating a crime scene with multiple witnesses, the police were able to piece together the events surrounding Adams’ murder.

The sentencing brings a sense of closure to the Adams family, who have been seeking justice for their loved one’s untimely death. The community will also breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that Hicks will spend the next 25 years behind bars for his heinous crime.

As the city continues to grapple with the rising tide of gun violence, this case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of senseless violence on families and communities.
