Hicks Gets 25 Years for Northeast DC Murder
WASHINGTON – In a brutal act of violence, Andre Hicks, 40, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of Daniel Adams in November 2023 in Northeast Washington, D.C.
U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) made the announcement, commending the work of the Homicide Branch of the MPD and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alec Levy.
According to the government’s evidence, Hicks approached 1705 Benning Road Northeast, Washington, D.C., on foot around 9:10 p.m. on November 25, 2023. Several people were standing inside and immediately out front of that address, including the victim, Daniel Adams.
Hicks stood for a moment by the front door, looking back in the direction of Adams. He then pulled a gun out of his pants and held it to his side, away from and out of view of the victim. With the gun out, Hicks started to slowly walk back down the steps in front of the building toward where Adams was standing.
Once Hicks had come within a few feet of Adams, he drew his gun up, pointed it at the victim, and started firing repeatedly. Hicks continued to fire at Adams as Adams ran away. Hicks then fled the scene. Adams was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds and died the next day.
Superior Court Judge Marisa Demeo handed down the 25-year prison sentence, followed by five years of supervised release. This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of gun violence in our communities.
The sentencing of Hicks brings a measure of closure to the family and friends of Daniel Adams, who will never forget the senseless act of violence that took his life. The Grimy Times commends the tireless efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing Hicks to justice.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Graves said, ‘This sentence is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our law enforcement partners and prosecutors in bringing justice to the family of Daniel Adams.’
This case is a grim reminder that gun violence has no place in our society, and we must continue to work towards creating safer communities for all.
