Maine Man Deming Nabbed for Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

WASHINGTON D.C. – Another name added to the January 6th roster. Lincoln Deming, 44, of Kittery, Maine, is facing serious federal charges after being arrested for his alleged role in the U.S. Capitol breach. The Department of Justice announced the arrest on May 11, 2024, alleging Deming actively worked to disrupt the joint session of Congress convened to certify the 2020 presidential election results.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia, Deming is charged with civil disorder, a felony, alongside several misdemeanor offenses. These include entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct, and parading, picketing, or demonstrating within the Capitol building itself. The feds say Deming wasn’t just a spectator; he was an active participant in the chaos.

The evidence paints a damning picture. On January 6, 2021, Deming was reportedly on the West Plaza, actively attempting to breach police barricades constructed of metal bike racks. Video footage shows him physically pulling at the barriers, seemingly trying to create an opening for other rioters. He even fell while applying his weight to the barricade, then *re-approached* the line, later throwing an object toward the officers. He then moved to the Upper West Terrace.

But it didn’t stop there. Deming then allegedly entered the Capitol through the Senate Wing Door at approximately 2:23 p.m. and spent roughly 33 minutes inside. Court documents detail his attempt to open locked doors, including the Dome Bulfinch Door, and his presence in the Senate Gallery. He finally exited through the Rotunda Doors around 2:56 p.m., leaving a trail of alleged violations in his wake.

Deming was arrested in Maine and is expected to make his initial appearance in the District of Maine today. This case is being spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with support from the Department of Justice National Security Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine. The FBI’s Portland and Washington Field Offices are leading the investigation, with assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

This arrest marks over 1,424 individuals charged in connection with the January 6th breach across nearly all 50 states, with more than 500 facing felony charges for assaulting or impeding law enforcement. The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Call 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit tips.fbi.gov. Remember, a criminal complaint is just an accusation, and Deming is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
