Johnstown Woman Faces Decades for Meth Distribution

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Jasmine Hinton, 29, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is staring down a potential decades-long prison sentence after being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of methamphetamine distribution, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced today.

The one-count indictment alleges that on or about February 14, 2024, Hinton possessed with intent to distribute a significant quantity of the dangerous drug: 50 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine. The feds aren’t playing around with quantity here; this isn’t a small-time operation.

If convicted, Hinton faces a mandatory minimum of five years behind bars, with a maximum sentence stretching to a staggering 40 years in federal prison. She could also be slapped with a fine of up to $5 million – a crippling blow even if she somehow manages to avoid the worst of the prison time. Sentencing will be determined by federal guidelines, factoring in the severity of the crime and Hinton’s prior record, if any.

Assistant United States Attorney Michael L. Mitchell is leading the prosecution, building the government’s case against Hinton. The investigation was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, suggesting a coordinated effort to dismantle a local drug network. Details of the investigation – how Hinton allegedly obtained the meth, and who she planned to distribute it to – remain under wraps.

This indictment is merely an accusation, and Hinton is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. She will have the opportunity to mount a defense and challenge the government’s evidence. However, the sheer volume of methamphetamine involved suggests the prosecution will come prepared with a strong case.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it unfolds, bringing you the unvarnished truth from the courtroom. The opioid crisis continues to ravage communities nationwide, and federal authorities are increasingly focused on dismantling the networks that fuel it, one indictment at a time. The next court date for Hinton has not yet been announced.
