Reinbeck Meth Kingpin Sentenced to 20 Years for Second Time

Austin David Hansen, a 39-year-old man from Reinbeck, Iowa, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his second conviction of a serious drug felony.

Hansen pleaded guilty in December 2024 to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, just weeks after being convicted of a federal drug trafficking crime in 2011. The latest conviction landed Hansen a 240-month prison term, plus a 10-year term of supervised release after serving his sentence.

According to the Department of Justice, Hansen worked with a California source of supply to ship methamphetamine and marijuana packages to post office boxes in Reinbeck, Dike, and Waterloo, Iowa. The packages contained over 5,000 grams of methamphetamine and thousands of dollars in drug proceeds, which Hansen sent to the source of supply.

Law enforcement seized a package from California containing over 5,000 grams of methamphetamine, as well as over 600 grams of methamphetamine, a firearm, and $12,000 in cash from Hansen’s residence during a search warrant execution on May 22, 2024.

Hansen’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and several local law enforcement agencies, including the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Hansen is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to serve his sentence. The case number is 24-CR-00044-CJW.
