Fort Thompson Man Sentenced for 10 Years to Prison for Methamphetamine Conspiracy

Fed Prison Sentence Handed Down for Fort Thompson Man

Pierre, SD – In a crushing blow to the local methamphetamine trade, Weston Big Eagle, 47, of Fort Thompson, South Dakota, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute the highly addictive and deadly drug in central South Dakota.

Big Eagle’s sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte on June 23, 2025, also includes 5 years of supervised release, a $1,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The conviction stems from a massive drug conspiracy that began in January 2023 and continued until December 2023. Big Eagle, along with several other individuals, worked to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine in and around the central South Dakota area, including within the Crow Creek and Lower Brule Sioux Indian Reservations.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges prosecuted the case.

Big Eagle was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, bringing an end to his reign of terror on local communities.

The grim reality of Big Eagle’s actions is a harsh reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on our communities. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
