MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A Texas man has pleaded guilty to a federal firearms charge that stems from his involvement in a drug trafficking ring. Kameron Vaughn Barrett, 27, of Desoto, Texas, faced charges for Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime, a charge that could land him behind bars for at least five years and leave him with a $250,000 fine.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma disclosed that on November 11, 2023, Barrett was caught knowingly possessing a firearm to aid in his drug trafficking activities. The indictment specifically mentioned Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana as the drug crime associated with the firearm possession.
This case came to light through an investigation by the Durant Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson oversaw the plea acceptance and directed the completion of a presentence investigation report before determining Barrett’s sentence.
According to federal guidelines and statutory factors, the sentencing will be decided by a U.S. District Court Judge. Until then, Barrett remains in the custody of the United States Marshals Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob R. Parker represented the government in this case, ensuring that justice was pursued with the utmost vigilance.
