Connecticut Drug Kingpin Marcano Sentenced to 69 Months

BURLINGTON, VT – The grim tale of Alexander Marcano’s descent into the drug underworld took a darker turn this week as the 33-year-old Connecticut man faced the music for his role in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy. Sentenced to 69 months’ imprisonment by Chief United States District Judge Christina Reiss, Marcano was handed a subsequent five-year term of supervised release to ensure he never again walks among us.

On December 9, 2024, Marcano pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of the deadly drug fentanyl. It was a chilling moment in court, one that would set the stage for his ultimate downfall.

The unraveling began early on January 30, 2023, when U.S. Border Patrol Agents encountered Marcano’s erratic vehicle near North Troy, Vermont. The stop led to the discovery of a trove of deadly drugs and a loaded pistol. But it was Marcano’s extradition warrant from Connecticut for a shooting that sealed his fate – he would be convicted of Assault 1st Degree – Serious Physical Injury.

Marcano, found with over 98 grams of fentanyl, more than 41 grams of cocaine base, and over 75 grams of cocaine powder, faced a mountain of charges. Alongside the drugs, he had drug paraphernalia that painted a clear picture of his involvement in the distribution ring.

Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher praised the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Vermont Drug Task Force for their relentless pursuit of justice.

Prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Lasher and Corinne Smith, Marcano was defended by Ian Carleton, Esq. This sentence is a stark reminder of the deadly consequences that come with the drug trade, and it’s one more victory for law enforcement in their ongoing battle against crime.
