HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In a stunning turn of events, Randy Steven Smith, 48, from Huntsville, Alabama, has been slapped with serious charges for the sexual exploitation of children. According to U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona, Smith stands accused of one count of sexual exploitation of children, one count of receipt of child pornography, and two counts of possession and transfer of obscene material to minors.
The grim allegations against Smith claim that these heinous acts occurred between 2023 and 2024 within Madison County. The case has been a collaborative effort by the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, which was supported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), U.S. Marshal Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, and Huntsville Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney R. Leann White is at the helm of the prosecution in this harrowing case. The charges come as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood has been instrumental in locating, apprehending, and prosecuting individuals who exploit children online, while identifying and rescuing victims.
It is important to note that an indictment contains only charges and does not imply guilt. Smith is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
