TULSA, Okla. – The grim saga of Carl Anthony Epps II, 43, reaches its conclusion as the gritty federal crime news site, Grimy Times, brings you the latest from the courtroom. Epps was sentenced today for Carrying, Using, and Brandishing a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence, a charge that carries a severe penalty.
U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson announced the sentence, with U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III, handing down an 84-month imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release. The courtroom had little room for leniency after Epps’s heinous act outside a local bar on February 2024.
That night, chaos erupted as Epps was asked to leave the bar for his harassment of patrons. His exit was marked by threats against an employee and claims of a firearm in his vehicle. Frightened witnesses dialed 911, describing how Epps pulled his car in front of the bar and pointed a rifle equipped with a green laser at the employee. When law enforcement arrived, they found Epps’s gun sitting prominently in his vehicle.
Epps will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, where he will serve out his sentence under strict supervision. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Tulsa Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney John W. Dowdell leading the prosecution.
This is not just another case; it’s a stark reminder of the community-safekeeping efforts under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). The initiative, part of the Department’s violent crime reduction strategy, aims to foster trust and legitimacy in communities, support local organizations preventing violence, set focused enforcement priorities, and measure results.
