PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The grimy streets of Pittsburgh witnessed yet another chapter in the city’s ongoing battle against gun violence when 26-year-old Jamar Perminter found himself facing a federal firearms charge.
Perminter, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury for violating a federal firearms law. The one-count Indictment names him as the sole defendant in this grim tale of illegal weaponry.
The court documents allege that Perminter possessed a firearm and ammunition on or about July 31, 2025, while already being a previously convicted felon. This is a clear violation of federal law, which strictly prohibits possession of firearms or ammunition by those with prior convictions.
According to the Indictment, the consequences for Perminter could be severe. The maximum total sentence he faces is up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher will be prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the investigation that led to the Indictment against Perminter.
The Indictment is an accusation, and Perminter is presumed innocent until proven guilty. This case serves as a stark reminder of the city’s struggle with gun violence and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to crack down on such illegal activities.
