CHICAGO — The grimy streets of Chicago have once again been witness to a harrowing tale of depravity as Armando Torres, a 35-year-old predator, was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting and receiving child sexual abuse material from at least 14 young victims.
In a chilling display of manipulation, Torres, using social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram, targeted young girls, many under the age of ten. The predator donned online personas designed to appeal to his innocent targets, often posing as a child himself. With graphic detail, he instructed his victims on how to pose for explicit images and videos.
His reign of terror spanned 2019 and 2020, leaving lasting scars on the lives of those he betrayed. Torres was sentenced on Aug. 11, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Steven C. Seeger, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin Walgamuth passionately advocating for justice.
In a statement that echoed the government’s resolve, U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros and FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Douglas S. DePodesta emphasized the severity of the crime. ‘Children are the most vulnerable members of our community,’ said Walgamuth. ‘Torres’s actions deprived these victims of their innocence and caused them and their families enduring trauma.’
This case is a crucial part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative leverages federal, state, and local resources to protect children from predators like Torres and to aid victims in their recovery.
For those who suspect they are victims or know someone who has been exploited, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children offers vital support at MissingKids.org or by calling 1-800-843-5678. The line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
