ALBANY, NEW YORK – The gritty streets of Watervliet were hit with a chilling charge today as Nicholas Sherlock, aged 33, was detained and indicted for receiving child pornography. The grim announcement came from Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office for the FBI.
According to the indictment issued Tuesday, Sherlock is accused of downloading numerous graphic images and videos showing minors engaged in sexually explicit acts on a social media platform from August 2024 to May 2025. The charges are merely accusations at this stage, with the defendant maintaining his innocence until proven guilty.
Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III spoke passionately about the case, stating, “As alleged, Sherlock received child sexual abuse material over the internet. This type of crime is far too common, and every day we strive to remove those with a sexual interest in children from our communities. Such individuals belong behind bars.”
Craig L. Tremaroli, FBI Special Agent in Charge, echoed these sentiments, adding, “The allegations against Mr. Sherlock are repulsive. The FBI is fully committed to dedicating every resource necessary to investigate and prosecute these cases involving the exploitation of our most vulnerable.”
The charge against Sherlock carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of five years, fines up to $250,000, and supervised release of at least five years. His sentence would be imposed by a judge based on the particular statute violated and other factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Wentworth-Ping is prosecuting the case, while the FBI continues its investigation. Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation, plays a crucial role in this case as well.
