GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a chilling case out of Tampa, Florida, Michael Alan Schumaker (57), of Port Richey, has been meted out a ten-year federal prison sentence for possession of child sex abuse material. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber.
Schumaker, who pleaded guilty on May 16, 2025, had been flagged to law enforcement due to a cyber tip that led authorities straight to him as a registered sexual offender. An investigation uncovered over two dozen images and nearly two-dozen videos of child sex abuse material on Schumaker’s cellphone.
“This case is a stark reminder of the sinister reach of online predators who exploit the innocence of children,” Assistant United States Attorney Courtney Derry commented during the prosecution. “Schumaker’s actions are a betrayal of trust and a heinous crime against our most vulnerable citizens.”
The investigation was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), demonstrating their dedication to protecting children from sexual exploitation. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat the rise of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood coordinates efforts across federal, state, and local levels to identify predators, rescue victims, and bring justice to survivors. For more information on this vital initiative, readers can visit www.justice.gov/psc.
This sentence is a testament to the ongoing commitment of law enforcement and prosecutors in Florida to protect our youth from such depravity. Schumaker’s sentence sends a clear message: There is no safe haven for those who prey on children.”
