Corpus Christi, Texas – The grim details of a child sex exploitation case have come to light as 39-year-old Johnathon Roberts has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison. Roberts pleaded guilty on July 24 for the recording of a sexual video with a minor relative.
The investigation was launched after authorities discovered child sexual abuse material uploaded onto the internet. Through meticulous work, law enforcement identified Roberts as the source and secured a search warrant for his Three Rivers residence. Upon executing the warrant, they seized his cell phone containing over 150 videos and images of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
During the hearing, it was revealed that Roberts had been creating such recordings over several years. In addition to the prison term, he will serve 10 years on supervised release with strict restrictions on accessing children and the internet. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative targeting child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Overman prosecuted the case, which was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations.
Roberts will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. The public is reminded of the importance of internet safety education as part of the ongoing fight against child exploitation.
