Kirtland Predator Gets 20 Years

⏱ 3 min read

Todd Oravecz, 45, of Kirtland, Ohio, will spend the next two decades in federal prison after admitting he was a digital predator. Oravecz was sentenced Thursday by Chief Judge Sara Lioi to 240 months – 20 years – for trafficking in horrific images and videos of child sexual abuse. He’ll also be under supervision for 15 years after his release.

The case started with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) flagging suspicious activity linked to an account in the Cleveland area. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Kirtland PD moved in, executing a search warrant at Oravecz’s home in December 2024. They found a digital depravity depot: six cellphones, a laptop, a tablet, a handgun, ammunition, and over 100 images and videos of abused kids.

But the digital filth wasn’t the whole story. Investigators unearthed a 2021 police report alleging Oravecz sexually assaulted a five-year-old child. Details of that alleged assault haven’t been fully revealed, but the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the broader investigation. The charges added another disturbing layer to an already sickening case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Margaret Kane brought the case as part of the Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Childhood” initiative, a nationwide effort to dismantle networks exploiting and abusing children. Oravecz was also ordered to pay $39,000 in restitution to victims. He’s just the latest predator caught in the crosshairs of federal investigators.
