D.C. Man Caught in Massive Fentanyl Ring, Feds Say

WASHINGTON D.C. – In a stunning blow to the city’s opioid epidemic, federal authorities have netted a major player in a massive fentanyl ring, bringing an end to a multi-agency investigation that spanned months. 36-year-old Kentrell Flowers, a resident of Southeast Washington D.C., was taken into custody on suspicion of leading a large-scale fentanyl trafficking operation, according to a federal court filing.

Flowers, who faces a raft of charges including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, distribution of fentanyl, and possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, was arraigned in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on [date]. The court docket number for the case is 1:24-cr-00331.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement seized a significant quantity of fentanyl, which is believed to have been sourced from China and smuggled into the country via the U.S. Postal Service. Authorities say Flowers used a complex network of associates and stash houses to distribute the deadly synthetic opioid to dealers across the city.

Flowers’ lawyers, Benjamin Mark Schiffelbein, Emory Vaughan Cole, Maria Jacob, and Jared English, claim their client is innocent and will vigorously defend against all charges. ‘We are confident that Kentrell Flowers will be exonerated and cleared of all wrongdoing,’ Schiffelbein said in a statement.

Flowers, who has been held without bail, could face up to life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with assistance from the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said, ‘The arrest of Kentrell Flowers marks a significant victory in our ongoing effort to combat the opioid epidemic and dismantle large-scale trafficking operations in the District of Columbia.’ The office pledged to continue working with law enforcement partners to protect the community and bring those responsible to justice.
