MACON, Ga. (April 10, 2024) – Macon County’s election supervisor and deputy have pleaded not guilty to a federal health-care fraud charge.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the two defendants, John Doe and Jane Smith, were indicted on April 9, 2024, for their alleged involvement in a health-care fraud scheme.
The indictment alleges that the defendants submitted false claims to the Medicare program for services that were not provided or were not medically necessary.
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia, and the investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
