Indiana Man Gets 20 Years for Receiving Child Porn

NORFOLK, Va. – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 23-year-old Douglas Lawrence True of Clarksville, Indiana, has pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography.

According to court documents, True was an active-duty sailor who was viewing child pornography aboard a ship’s computer. His command seized and searched his cellphone, revealing that he was communicating with minors and enticing them to send explicit photos of themselves to him. In one example, True convinced his co-defendant Rebecca Gibbs to photograph herself performing sex acts on a 1-year-old child and to send True the pictures.

True and Gibbs were indicted by a Norfolk federal grand jury on June 19, 2014, on three counts relating to child pornography. True is scheduled to be sentenced on February 20, 2015, and faces up to 20 years in prison.

Rebecca Gibbs, True’s co-defendant, pleaded guilty to production of child pornography on September 30, 2014. As a result of her guilty plea, she faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years of incarceration when she is sentenced on January 5, 2015.

The case was investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). Assistant United States Attorney Joseph L. Kosky is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
