Dane Brooks, Possessing a Gun and Ammunition, Pennsylvania 2021

Pittsburgh resident Dane Brooks, 52, has been charged with a federal firearms violation that could land him behind bars for up to 10 years.

Brooks, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA 15208, was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition on April 28, 2021, according to an indictment handed down by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh. His prior felony convictions make it unlawful for him to possess a firearm or ammunition.

The indictment charges Brooks with one count of violating federal firearms laws. If convicted, he could face a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant. Brooks is currently being detained at the Allegheny County Jail.

Assistant United States Attorney Michael R. Ball is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.

An indictment is an accusation. Brooks is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
