Conroe Man Transporting Minor Guilty
A Conroe man has been found guilty of transporting a 14-year-old girl across multiple states for sex.
Jacob Daniel West, 33, entered a guilty plea in federal court to transporting a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity. The crime took place in January 2013, when West traveled with the minor from Texas through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, New York, Virginia, and the Carolinas before arriving in Florida.
The victim had previously engaged in sex acts with West, who was a neighbor of her parents in Conroe. She was living with her grandmother at the time but had been staying with her parents on occasion when she left with West.
On January 28, 2013, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office in Ft. Pierce, Florida, located West’s car at a Sleep Inn hotel. West had rented a room at the hotel the previous night during which time he engaged in sexual activity with the victim. Officers had observed the room and arrested West as he exited.
West also admitted to stealing an AR-15, handguns, money, and credit cards from a deceased friend in Texas prior to leaving the state with the victim. U.S. District Judge Sim Lake accepted the guilty plea today and has set sentencing for September 25, 2013. West faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service and was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Judge Lake’s sentencing will determine the exact length of West’s prison term. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of child sexual exploitation and the importance of protecting vulnerable children.
The government’s efforts to combat child exploitation are ongoing, and this case is a testament to their dedication to keeping children safe. As the case moves forward, the community can rest assured that justice will be served.
