A Gilded Scandal Unfolds in Hattiesburg: 19 Families Duped into Mississippi’s Cutover Land

In a stunning case of mass deception, 19 families from the Middle West, including Chicago and Cleveland, were lured to South Mississippi with promises of fertile land and a brighter future. However, what they found was a harsh reality – 1240 acres of cutover land, stripped bare of its natural resources and left barren.

According to sources close to the investigation, the families were sold these plots on false pretenses, with some being promised up to 120 acres of land. The average size of the farms sold was around 80 acres, with six families purchasing this size and eleven buying 40 acres each.

The masterminds behind this scheme, Cummins Co., have been making headlines in recent weeks with their impressive headway in the state’s migration work.

But behind the façade of progress and prosperity, a sinister plot unfolded. The families, who had never set foot in Mississippi before, were convinced to leave their homes and families in the Middle West. They were promised that they would return within a few weeks to operate their newly acquired properties, but what they found was a desolate landscape devoid of any real opportunity.

It’s estimated that the population of South Mississippi was increased by 95 individuals as a result of this scheme, with families expecting to return to their newly acquired land. However, it’s unclear if these families will ever see the promised prosperity.

The demonstration farm, once in excellent condition, now lies in ruins, a testament to the greed and deception that has plagued this region.
