A brazen daylight robbery at a Houston Wells Fargo Bank left customers shaken and employees in fear for their lives, but thanks to the swift action of law enforcement, the masterminds behind the heist have been brought to justice.
On December 28, 2012, Aaron Derrow, 43, and Terrance Jackson, 35, both of Houston, led a group of masked robbers in a daring heist at the Wells Fargo Bank on Kirby Drive in Houston. The group, which included co-defendants Willie Wright III, 32, and Justin Levar Taylor, 33, all of Houston, donned various disguises and stormed the bank, brandishing pistols and threatening employees.
According to court documents, Derrow and Jackson jumped over the teller counter, while Wright and Taylor controlled the lobby. Derrow threatened a male teller with his gun while filling a bag with money, before all four men fled the scene in a stolen white Toyota pickup truck.
However, their getaway was short-lived, as they were apprehended a short time later at a residence several miles away. The case was investigated by the FBI’s Bank Robbery Task Force and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennie Basile.
U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas sentenced Derrow to 51 months for aggravated bank robbery, as well as a consecutive seven years for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, for a total of 135 months in federal prison. Jackson was given a sentence of 108 months for his conviction of aggravated bank robbery.
Last week, Judge Atlas sentenced Wright to 46 months for aggravated bank robbery, as well as a consecutive seven years for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, for a total of 130 months in federal prison. Taylor will be sentenced in January 2014 and was also convicted of aggravated bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
All four men have been and will remain in custody, bringing a sense of relief to the community and demonstrating the FBI’s commitment to keeping our streets safe.
