BUFFALO, N.Y. — Aaron Lucas, aka B-Wise, 39, of Buffalo, is back behind bars — not for a new crime, but for holding onto the tools of his past. Lucas pleaded guilty Monday to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge stemming from a 2015 raid on his Busti Avenue residence, federal prosecutors confirmed.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the plea in a terse morning statement, laying bare the facts: on October 25, 2015, Buffalo police and ATF agents executed a New York State search warrant at Lucas’s home. Hidden inside, they found a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle — a weapon legally off-limits to any convicted felon.
And Lucas is no stranger to the system. Convicted of a felony in state court back in 2003, he’s been barred from possessing firearms for over a decade. Yet, authorities say, he chose to ignore that prohibition, keeping a loaded rifle in his residence like a relic of defiance — until the knock came.
The guilty plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo, who will sentence Lucas on May 31, 2018. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine — a price Lucas now faces for one bad decision in a long criminal shadow.
The investigation was led by the Buffalo Police Department under Commissioner Byron Lockwood, working in tandem with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Special Agent-in-Charge Ashan Benedict, who oversees the ATF’s New York Field Division, confirmed the agency’s role in building the federal case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan A. Tokash is handling prosecution. No additional charges were filed, but sources close to the investigation say Lucas remains under scrutiny for possible ties to ongoing gun trafficking patterns in the city’s West Side. For now, the case stands as a stark reminder: in Buffalo’s toughest neighborhoods, old habits don’t just die hard — they get federal time.
