Abdur Rahmen Abdullah, Firearms Law Violation, Pennsylvania 2013

A New Jersey man is behind bars after being sentenced to 36 months in prison for violating federal firearms laws.

A resident of Tuckertown, NJ, Abdur Rahmen Abdullah, 33, was sentenced in federal court in Johnstown to 36 months in prison and three years’ supervised release on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Abdullah, who was convicted of the crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.

The conviction stems from Abdullah’s possession of a Remington, Model 870 Wingmaster, 12 gauge shotgun on January 10, 2013. This is a serious offense, as federal law prohibits persons who have been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

Mr. Hickton commended the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Johnstown Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Abdullah.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.

Abdullah’s conviction serves as a reminder that violating federal firearms laws will not be tolerated in our communities.
