Accokeek Gunman Sentenced to Over 7 Years for Narcotics and Arms

GREENBELT, MD – A grim day in Greenbelt as Shaka Abdul-Muhaimin, 31, of Accokeek, Maryland, was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel delivered the verdict in Abdul-Muhaimin’s case, which was announced by United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Daniel L. Board, Jr. of the ATF – Baltimore Field Division; and Chief Henry P. Stawinski of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

On July 9, 2015, Abdul-Muhaimin was observed at a restaurant parking lot in Accokeek where police confronted him following a botched attempt to flee. Inside the vehicle, law enforcement found crack cocaine, powder cocaine, heroin, ethylone, marijuana, and weapons including a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Abdul-Muhaimin’s previous felony drug conviction in the District of Columbia rendered him ineligible for firearm or ammunition possession, yet he was caught with the arsenal. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release after his prison term.

U.S. Attorney Rosenstein lauded the ATF and Prince George’s County Police Department for their efforts in the investigation, thanking Assistant United States Attorney Menaka Kalaskar for her prosecution.
