Aiken Law Firm Employee Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement
Tonya M. Hair, a 43-year-old woman from Jackson, South Carolina, has pleaded guilty to embezzling from an Aiken law firm.
According to court records, Hair worked as an administrative assistant at the law firm and used various credit cards and bank accounts to divert money to herself from mid-2006 to early 2013.
Investigators identified approximately $270,000 in unlawful transactions attributable to Hair.
United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated that Hair pleaded guilty to Uttering Forged Securities and Access Device Fraud, both punishable by up to ten years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000.
The case was investigated by agents of the United States Secret Service, and Assistant United States Attorney Winston David Holliday, Jr. is prosecuting the case.
A sentencing hearing for Hair is scheduled to take place at a later date before United States District Judge J. Michelle Childs of Columbia.
