Ex-Terrorist Convicted in NYC Bombing

Akayed Ullah, a 31-year-old man, has been convicted of detonating a bomb in a New York City subway station, injuring four people and causing widespread panic.

The bomb exploded on December 11, 2017, at 7:20 a.m. under the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Ullah was arrested shortly after the blast and was found to have components of an exploded pipe bomb on his person.

The jury delivered a guilty verdict on all six counts of the indictment, which included offenses related to the detonation of a bomb in a subway station. Ullah faces a possible sentence of life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 5, 2019.

According to court documents, Ullah detonated the bomb in an attempt to harm and terrorize innocent people in his path. The bomb was constructed to inflict maximum damage and was designed to kill as many people as possible.

Ullah’s crime was motivated by his allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS), a foreign terrorist organization based in the Middle East and Africa. ISIS has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks around the world and has a history of targeting civilians.

The case against Ullah was led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, with assistance from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.
